  • Health & Safety Advisor (Fixed Term)
  • Salary: £33,000 per annum
    Hours: 37.5 per week, 8.30am – 5.00pm, Monday to Friday 
    Contract: Full-time, fixed term for 18 months

    As a Health & Safety Advisor you will assist the Head of Health Safety & Security deliver the Health & Safety Compliance for the Port of Milford Haven and promote a positive safety culture.

    Provide professional advice to all MHPA operational areas on all matters relating to Health & Safety
    Assist the Head of HSS to plan, produce, implement, monitor, and review the organisation's Port Integrated Management System (PIMS)
    Carry out accident/incident investigations in accordance with the Company Accident/Incident Reporting procedure and, analysing all data, making recommendations to avoid any reoccurrences
    Assist functional managers within the operational areas to understand their responsibilities for managing the Health & Safety of their teams
    Undertake General and Fire Risk Assessments
    Ensure that all Health and Safety documents are prepared and managed in accordance with the MHPA Document Control system
    Support MHPA site management teams to ensure compliance with all requirements stipulated in the relevant PIMS procedures
    Conduct health and Safety workplace inspections and write reports that include corrective actions
    Manage all Health, Safety and Environmental Notice Boards
    Assist the Head of HSS with the Contractor Safety Questionnaires (CSQ) and Safety Systems in Procurement (SSIP) review process
    Deliver Health, Safety & Security presentations to groups of MHPA Staff
    Review Health & Safety department statistics to identify trends and areas for improvement. Develop and implement Project / Health & Safety campaigns and improvement plans in agreement with the Head of HSS

    Ensure that you and your team are alert to all possible risks, raising any concerns and reporting events through the Assurance Framework
    Be familiar with and adhere to all relevant company Policies, Procedures and Local Work Instructions
    An understanding of the key risks when working on a MHPA Site and the likely impacts & consequence

    Ensure PIMS are implemented within your operational/business unit and that staff are briefed and understand PIMS, procuring training where necessary



    NEBOSH National Certificate or equivalent level 3 qualification in Occupational Safety and Health
    Experience in a specialist Health & Safety role advising a business on systems and processes and/or have had a front-line Health & Safety responsibility
    Experience of Health & Safety audits
    Ability to work within a team or on own initiative when required
    Able to build strong, effective working relationships with colleagues
    Able to advise operations and positively influence a safety culture  
    Promote and implement the “STOP WORK AUTHORITY” confidently when identifying a possible unsafe act
    Experienced in incident reporting and investigations to confirm route cause and influence positive improvement 
    Resilient, resourceful with ability to work to tight deadlines
    Confident, flexible and collaborative working attitude
    Full UK driving licence
    Excel, Word competency

    Level 3 qualification in Education and Training
    Good understanding of the CDM Regulations
    Port operations experience preferred but not necessary
    Experience in managing safe systems to work in a high hazard industry such as the Oil & Gas sector
    NEBOSH Diploma or Equivalent
    Member of IOSH (Institute Occupational Safety & Health)
