  • Commercial Manager
  • Salary: £38,299 per annum

    Hours: 37.5 per week   

    Contract: Permanent, full-time 

    As a Commercial Manager you will deliver growth in revenue, diversification of income and an expanded customer base for port services across the Port’s estate and operations, maximising asset and resource utilisation. You will also provide account management of existing customers and contracts, to maximise customer satisfaction and capitalise on opportunities for collaboration.

    PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Identify sectors, markets and networks that offer scope for commercial opportunity for the Port, and undertake market research, intelligence gathering to qualify and quantify the scope of such opportunities
    • Collaborate with Marketing and external agencies to support the development and implementation of strategies and business development activities to promote Pembroke Port and the Milford Haven Waterway
    • Build long term relationships with existing and potential customers and suppliers in order to maximise early knowledge of potential commercial opportunities
    • Process leads and enquiries from initial contact to establishment of agreements/contracts, acting as a conduit between customer, internal departments and any required external agencies
    • Establish customer requirements, define optimum solutions, cost and price services, pitch proposals to customers and SMT, and develop business cases and gain approval for investment
    • Develop a thorough understanding of market rates and forces across all potential sectors in order to price and pitch services at optimum levels to win new business
    • Define and negotiate contract terms and rates, author/procure contracts (customer and supplier), and establish new business streams, managing risk and opportunity throughout
    • Investigate and resolve contractual customer issues, acting as the conduit between customer and internal departments / external agencies
    • Build positive long-term working relationships with existing customers in order to maximise opportunistic commercial development and collaboration opportunities
    • Negotiate contract renewals on favourable terms and service levels for the Port and customer
    • Represent the organisation at exhibitions and trade events, as required
    • Establish clarity of performance across the commercial department, through the specification, development and provision of metrics/KPI’s and management reporting
    • Manage support staff within the commercial department, as required

    PERSON SPECIFICATION

    Essential:

    • Educated to postgraduate level or equivalent demonstrable experience
    • Experience in a business development / contract management role
    • Knowledge of port services, shipping, logistics, offshore, cargo, and renewable energy sectors
    • Excellent communication, presentation and negotiating/influencing skills
    • Experience of developing and managing projects, services or operations
    • Exceptional IT skills with advanced analytical ability
    • Market research experience
    • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
    • Highly motivated and able to work on own initiative and as part of a team
    • Decision-making and problem-solving ability
    • Driven, opportunistic & resourceful
    • High level of discretion/confidentiality 

      Desirable:

    • Business and Commerce / Marketing qualification
    • Shipping qualification / trade organisation membership

    SPECIAL CONDITIONS

    • This role will involve some travel
